skalkaho ski area

Branding, brand strategy, and marketing assets

Role in project solo designer

Skalkaho Mountain is the premier ski area in Montana’sBitterroot Valley. The resort features a whopping 127 trails, 7 lifts, and hundreds of acres of in-bound, skiable terrain.

In this passion project, I developed a brand strategy and visual brand for Skalkaho Ski Area that included outlining the brand’s target audience, mission statement, brand archetype, and more, as well as a fully developed logo suite.

purpose

Skalkaho strives to be like no other mountain in the West – down to earth and approachable vibes, yet not exactly geared towards kids. The mountain is fun, rebellious, and as chill as their snow covered runs.

The brand is an “Explorer” archetype, and values adventure, discovery, and independence.

concept

When designing the logo, I decided on a clean, bold font paired with a custom mountain icon to represent the ski hill itself. I then utilized bright colors, and a collection of curated, playful stock images to translate the brand’s personality throughout all assets.

The color palette is bold and playful, yet still leans into winter, skiing, and snow with the cool undertones contrasting against a few key brighter hues.

When it came to developing icons and marketing assets for the ski area, I leaned into the brand strategy and developed assets that spoke directly to Skalkaho’s target audience. I paired playful copy with bold design and created a set of icons that capture these same emotions while easily translating different services or activities.
